Biden Urges House to Act Quickly on Shutdown, Warns Time to Aid Ukraine is Limited

President Biden has criticized House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and House Republicans for bringing the government to the brink of a shutdown. He expressed relief that a crisis was averted, but emphasized that the situation should never have occurred in the first place. Biden called for an end to governing by crisis and urged members of Congress to keep their promises. He blamed extreme MAGA Republicans for attempting to back out of previous agreements, which would have resulted in drastic spending cuts. Biden stressed the need for Republicans to support Ukraine in a separate vote, as the proposed stopgap measure does not include funds for the country.

Biden emphasized the urgency of the situation regarding Ukraine and stated that there is not much time left to provide support. When asked if he could trust McCarthy to keep his word, Biden responded that they had just made a deal about Ukraine and would soon find out. The President also expressed hope that McCarthy would have a personal revelation through this experience.
