KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs secured their 16th consecutive win over the Denver Broncos with a 19-8 victory on Thursday night. Patrick Mahomes threw for 306 yards and a touchdown, while Harrison Butker kicked four field goals to contribute to the Chiefs’ win. Travis Kelce had a standout performance with nine catches for 124 yards, cheered on by Taylor Swift from an Arrowhead Stadium suite. The Chiefs’ defense played a key role in shutting down the Broncos, holding them to just 197 yards of total offense. Russell Wilson, the Broncos’ quarterback, was limited to 95 passing yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

The Chiefs struggled to convert their red-zone trips into touchdowns, relying on field goals instead. Butker’s three field goals helped the Chiefs build a 16-0 lead. Wilson’s touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton, initially ruled incomplete but overturned upon review, fueled the Broncos’ comeback. Javonte Williams’ 2-point conversion brought the game within one possession. However, the Broncos’ defense was unable to make a stop, allowing Mahomes to connect with Rashee Rice for a crucial third-down conversion. Butker sealed the game with a 52-yard field goal in the final minutes.

The Broncos’ losing streak against the Chiefs dates back to September 17, 2015. Despite their league-worst defense, the Broncos’ struggles primarily stemmed from their offense. Wilson struggled to generate momentum, and the team struggled to move the ball consistently.

Both teams had difficulties in the red zone, with the Chiefs settling for field goals on multiple occasions. Mahomes’ touchdown pass to Kadarius Toney was the only red-zone success for the Chiefs. Butker’s 60-yard field goal at the end of the first half provided a significant momentum boost for Kansas City.

The Chiefs’ red-zone woes continued into the second half, resulting in more field goals. Their inability to score touchdowns kept the game within reach for the Broncos until the final minutes.

Travis Kelce, who had a standout performance for the Chiefs, was supported by Taylor Swift, who attended the game. Swift and Kelce have developed a relationship recently, and she has been seen cheering him on in previous games.

Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones extended his sack streak to eight straight regular-season games, trailing only his own franchise record of 11 consecutive games in 2018.

In terms of injuries, the Broncos’ tight end Greg Dulcich left the game in the fourth quarter with a hamstring injury. He had recently returned from injured reserve. Justin Reid and Justin Watson of the Chiefs also suffered injuries during the game.

The Broncos will host the Green Bay Packers on October 22, while the Chiefs will host the Los Angeles Chargers on the same day.
