Britney Spears Reveals She Had an Abortion During Relationship with Justin Timberlake in New Memoir
October 18, 2023 | by Kaju
According to an excerpt from her highly anticipated memoir, Britney Spears disclosed that she had an abortion while dating Justin Timberlake over 20 years ago. In “The Woman in Me,” Spears writes that she wouldn’t have chosen to have the procedure on her own, but Timberlake was adamant about not becoming a father at that time. She expressed that the pregnancy was a surprise, but not a tragedy, as she had always wanted to start a family with Timberlake, just not at that moment. Timberlake, however, was not happy about the pregnancy, citing their young age and lack of readiness to raise a child. The couple eventually broke up in 2002, and it’s unclear when exactly the pregnancy occurred. Representatives for Spears and Timberlake have not provided further comments on the matter.
Spears, known for her active presence on social media, has not made any posts on Instagram or Twitter since the release of the People magazine stories. The excerpt from the memoir portrays the abortion as one of the most agonizing experiences of her life. The memoir itself, titled “The Woman in Me,” is scheduled to be published on October 24. It comes shortly after Spears announced her divorce from Sam Asghari and promises to shed light on her tumultuous decades in the spotlight.
Britney Spears rose to fame as a young star on “The Mickey Mouse Club,” alongside future celebrities like Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake. Despite some attempts at acting, Spears found exceptional success in her music career, starting with the hit song “…Baby One More Time” in 1999. She had two sons with Kevin Federline but was placed under a court-ordered conservatorship, primarily overseen by her father, which controlled her life, finances, and voice after public breakdowns. The conservatorship lasted for nearly 14 years before coming to an end in late 2021 due to the #FreeBritney movement and legal changes to conservatorship regulations in California.
Spears’ allegations against her father and others involved in the conservatorship are expected to be heard in a civil trial next year. Justin Timberlake has also faced scrutiny for his past actions toward Spears, including a controversial music video and his role in Janet Jackson’s 2004 Super Bowl halftime show incident. However, he tweeted his support for Britney after she revealed the details of her conservatorship in court. Timberlake acknowledged his past mistakes and expressed concern for Spears’ well-being.
The memoir is anticipated to provide more insights into Britney Spears’ life, including her experience with the conservatorship, relationships, and career struggles.
