According to transgender advocates, detransitioning is considered rare, but recent cases suggest that it is becoming less uncommon.
The newly released short documentary by PragerU, titled “Detrans: The Dangers of Gender-Affirming Care,” features nearly a dozen young people who have undergone detransitioning and have returned to identifying as their biological sex.
Daisy Strongin, one of the featured detransitioners who previously identified as “Oliver,” stated, “There are so many young people who are going through very similar things that I did and are still being told that transition will save them, and it’s just not true.”
PragerU is dedicated to ensuring that this message is heard. The conservative content-creator has invested $1 million in a marketing campaign, which includes a “timeline takeover” on X to promote what is described as their “most important short documentary ever.”
“Every person who uses Twitter that day will see the #DETRANS promotion,” stated PragerU in a press release.
PragerU commended X for accepting the takeover ad placement, as YouTube rejected the proposal almost instantly. However, YouTube has allowed PragerU to run video ads on the trailer. Additionally, several film festivals have declined to feature the documentary.
“There’s no telling how many kids could have been saved if Twitter and other social media platforms had not blocked these stories over the last few years,” said PragerU CEO Marissa Streit. “We hope to inform young Americans of the dangers of gender-affirming care through this eye-opening documentary and the testimonials of those who truly regret it.”
The documentary “Detrans” is available on the PragerU website, mobile app, and SmartTV streaming app platforms such as Roku, AppleTV, and Amazon Fire.
Abel Garcia, another individual who detransitioned, shared his experience of being labeled transgender after his first visit to a therapist. After receiving hormone treatment for 11 months, he was approved for surgery after just one meeting with a medical professional.
The 21-minute documentary also features other detransitioners such as Prisha Mosely, Chloe Cole, and Leyla Jane, who have all filed lawsuits against their doctors for malpractice.

The Independent Women’s Forum, a right-of-center organization, also sheds light on stories of detransitioning in an ongoing film series called “Identity Crisis: Stories the Transgender Movement Doesn’t Want You to Hear.”
Contrary to PragerU’s documentary, the Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBTQ group in the nation, claims that detransitioning is rare and is often the result of environmental factors rather than regret.
“Generally speaking, medical research shows that most patients do not actually regret their decision to undergo gender-affirming surgery and that it is only one aspect of their transition,” stated the HRC on their website.
A June study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior concluded that the percentage of people who detransition or have regrets is not known outside of specific study populations.
The study was conducted by the Society of Evidence Based Medicine, which has expressed criticism towards medical interventions for young people diagnosed with gender dysphoria.
