The Los Angeles Chargers had an impressive win over the New York Jets on Monday night, with standout performances from Derius Davis, Austin Ekeler, and the Chargers’ defense. Davis returned a punt 87 yards for a touchdown, while Ekeler scored two rushing touchdowns. The Chargers’ defense dominated the Jets’ struggling offense, sacking Zach Wilson eight times and forcing four fumbles.
Quarterback Justin Herbert didn’t need to do much in this game, as the Chargers’ other players stepped up. He did, however, become the fastest player in NFL history to reach 1,500 completions. Keenan Allen also reached a milestone, surpassing 10,000 career receiving yards.
The Jets had a tough time getting their offense going, despite facing the worst-ranked passing defense in the league. Wilson completed 33 of 49 passes for 263 yards but struggled to make an impact.
The game started with a bang as Davis returned a punt for an 87-yard touchdown, giving the Chargers an early 7-0 lead. It was the longest punt return in the NFL this season. The Chargers’ defense continued to make big plays, recovering three fumbles and scoring a defensive touchdown.
The Jets had some opportunities to score but couldn’t capitalize. The Chargers’ defense was relentless, and their performance helped secure the win.
Overall, it was a dominant performance by the Chargers, led by Davis, Ekeler, and the defense. They snapped the Jets’ three-game winning streak and improved their own record to 4-4.
Next, the Chargers will host the Detroit Lions, while the Jets will head to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders.
