Dylan Strome scored in overtime, helping the Washington Capitals secure a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night, extending their winning streak to five games.
Goals from Alex Alexeyev, T.J. Oshie, Tom Wilson, and Strome contributed to the Capitals’ win, marking their 6-0-1 record in the last seven games. Darcy Kuemper, in his first start since Nov. 8, made 24 saves.
The Sabres, who have lost four of their last five games, had goals from J.J. Peterka, Zach Benson, and Dylan Cozens, with Devon Levi stopping 26 saves.
Washington’s Wilson tied the game with 1:15 remaining in regulation before Strome sealed the win in the final seconds of overtime. Buffalo took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Peterka and Benson, but Alexeyev and Oshie quickly equalized for the Capitals.
Cozens then put the Sabres back in front with a power-play goal in the second period, and neither team scored in the final frame.
Washington was unable to convert any of their two power-play opportunities during the game, extending their streak of 23 straight power plays without a goal in the past nine games.
