For the first time this postseason, the Texas bullpen had to protect a slim lead in the late innings. Josh Sborz, Aroldis Chapman, and José Leclerc held on to secure a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles in Game 1 of their AL Division Series. Andrew Heaney and Dane Dunning gave Texas a lead heading into the sixth inning, and the bullpen fought off some anxious moments to secure the win.

Josh Jung homered and made a critical double play from third base, contributing to Texas’ win. With this victory, Texas now has a 3-0 record in the playoffs, all on the road. Game 2 of the series is set to take place on Sunday at Camden Yards.

The Rangers entered the playoffs with a bullpen that was considered a weak link, but they have proven their critics wrong by allowing only three runs in three games against the Orioles and Rays. Despite missing key pitchers Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, the Rangers’ pitching staff has held up well.

The Orioles, who won 101 games during the regular season, are now trailing in their postseason opener. The Rangers took advantage of a shaky Orioles bullpen and scored two runs in the fourth inning. Baltimore had a chance to score in the late innings but failed to produce with runners in scoring position.

This win marks the first playoff game at Camden Yards since 2014. The crowd at the stadium witnessed a rain delay at the start but remained festive throughout the game. Former Orioles star Adam Jones threw out the first pitch, and Joan Jett sang the national anthem.

Overall, the Rangers’ bullpen did a great job in protecting their lead and securing the win in Game 1 of the ALDS. Texas will look to continue their success in Game 2 against the Orioles.
