The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) had its YouTube account suspended over the weekend after posting a video of a violent assault in an attempt to identify the suspects involved. The LAPD stated that their appeal to the temporary suspension was denied, leading them to share a link to their Critical Incident Community Briefings page where the video could be found.

While the LAPD’s YouTube account has since been restored, the video of the September assault that caused the suspension is no longer available on their page.

The LAPD had shared a Ring camera video of an assault that took place in Venice on September 28th. The video showed two men walking with bicycles attacking a third man. One of the suspects swung a pair of bolt cutters at the victim, who managed to deflect the blow. However, the suspect continued to punch the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. The video ends with the suspect kicking the victim in the head while he is down.

According to the LAPD, the two suspects and the victim were involved in another altercation shortly after the video ended, resulting in serious injuries to the victim. One of the suspects armed himself with the bolt cutters once again and struck the victim on the back of his head, rendering him unconscious. The suspects fled the scene.

A passerby discovered the unconscious victim and called for paramedics, who took him to the hospital for treatment.

The LAPD’s YouTube account suspension sparked controversy and discussion about the balance between sharing important crime information with the public and the potential impact on victims and investigations.
