Corey Seager Joins Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson as Second World Series MVP
November 2, 2023 | by Kaju

Corey Seager made history by becoming the second player to win the World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the second time. He joined the prestigious company of Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson, and Reggie Jackson as the only other players to achieve this feat. Seager’s three two-run homers against the Arizona Diamondbacks solidified his MVP status.
Seager’s ability to deliver big hits in the postseason is matched only by his calm demeanor on the field. However, he couldn’t help but show some excitement after hitting a tying homer in Game 1. This performance is exactly what the Texas Rangers had in mind when they signed Seager for a record-breaking $325 million ahead of the 2022 season.
In the decisive Game 5, Seager ended Zac Gallen’s no-hit bid with a single and scored the Rangers’ first run as they went on to win the World Series with a 5-0 victory. Seager’s dominance against the Diamondbacks even led their manager, Torey Lovullo, to jokingly say that he wanted to send a limousine to take Seager away from the NL West division.
Seager finished the postseason with impressive stats: a .318 batting average, six doubles, six home runs, 15 walks, and 12 RBIs in 17 games. His postseason career numbers are also remarkable, with 19 home runs and 48 RBIs in 78 games, putting him in the company of legendary players like Reggie Jackson.
Seager’s impact wasn’t limited to his offense. He also made impressive defensive plays, including a sliding stop and backhand flip for a crucial double play in Game 3. His all-around abilities make him a force to be reckoned with.
At just 29 years old, Seager has already established himself as a four-time All-Star. Despite his quiet demeanor, he is known for his strong work ethic and desire to win. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy praised Seager’s leadership and his expectation that everyone on the team plays with the same intensity.
