Elon Musk Warns of Suspension for Those Promoting Genocide on X After White House Criticism
November 20, 2023 | by Kaju
Tech billionaire Elon Musk said that “anyone advocating” genocide on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, will be suspended from the site.
Mr. Musk’s edict comes after the White House accused the Tesla and SpaceX owner of promoting “antisemitic and racist hate” on X.
“At risk of stating the obvious, anyone advocating the genocide of *any* group will be suspended from this platform,” Mr. Musk said. “As I said earlier this week, ‘decolonization,’ ‘from the river to the sea’ and similar euphemisms necessarily imply genocide. Clear calls for extreme violence are against our terms of service and will result in suspension.”
Mr. Musk previously appeared to agree with an X user who posted antisemitic comments earlier in the week.
“To the cowards hiding behind the anonymity of the internet and posting ‘Hitler was right’: You got something you want to say?”
Another user responded, ‘Okay. Jewish [people] have been pushing the exact kind of dialectical hatred against whites that they claim to want people to stop using against them,” the poster wrote.
“You have said the actual truth,” Mr. Musk responded.
That comment thread generated a harsh response from the White House. Spokesperson Andrew Bates called the posts an “abhorrent promotion of antisemitic and racist hate.”
“We all have a responsibility to bring people together against hate, and an obligation to speak out against anyone who attacks the dignity of their fellow Americans and compromises the safety of our communities,” Mr. Bates said.
