1914 Babe Ruth Rookie Baseball Card to be Auctioned for Millions

The Robert Edward Auctions is set to auction off a Babe Ruth rookie baseball card from 1914, and experts are anticipating that it will fetch millions of dollars.

Babe Ruth, who played for his hometown Baltimore Orioles, a minor league team in 1914, is the subject of the card. However, he was only with the team for a short period before being sold to the Boston Red Sox due to financial difficulties. He made his first appearance in Baltimore in March 1914 and joined the Red Sox in July of the same year.

The auction features a Babe Ruth rookie card that was produced by the defunct Baltimore News newspaper. It is one of ten confirmed copies of the card in existence, according to the auction listing.

The auction house described the card as the most significant baseball card ever produced, citing its rarity and historical importance. The Baltimore News managed to capture an image of Ruth during a brief window, which the house deemed miraculous.

It is worth noting that the current MLB team known as the Orioles was originally the St. Louis Browns in 1914 and only adopted the name and moved to Baltimore in 1953.

Although the opening bid for the card is $2.5 million, the auction house expects it to sell for a much higher amount. According to Brian Dwyer, the president of the auction house, they believe the card could fetch upwards of $10 million or even set a new record in baseball card auctions.

If you are interested in seeing the card in person, it will be on public display at the Babe Ruth Birthplace & Museum in Baltimore from 2-4 p.m. on Wednesday.
