Peruvian Welcome for Japan’s Princess Kako to Celebrate 150 Years of Diplomatic Ties

Japanese Princess Kako arrived in Peru on an official visit to commemorate 150 years of diplomatic relations between both countries.

During her six-day stay in Peru, Princess Kako will lead a ceremony to celebrate the start of bilateral relations in 1873. This was when both countries signed a treaty of friendship, commerce, and navigation.

Her itinerary includes visits to significant landmarks in Peru, such as Cuzco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, and Qoricancha, the sacred temple of the Incas.

In Lima, Princess Kako will also visit a school for students with hearing loss. She has a personal connection to the cause and has participated in speech competitions among deaf students in Japan.

Japan is Peru’s fourth-largest trading partner, and there are seven Japanese mining companies operating in Peru, which is the world’s second-largest producer of copper.
